I have had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas on a few different occasions. Each trip has been a fun adventure in sin city. Even if you aren’t a big gambler, there is so much to do and see. A few of my top things to do in Las Vegas include seeing a show, walking through the extravagant hotels, visiting old Vegas and hitting up a club or pool party.
#1 Walk the Strip at Night
To get a true sense of Vegas, walk the strip at night. This is when you can really feel the city come alive. All the hotels will be lit up and you can see the dancing fountains at the Bellagio or the volcano at the Mirage. You can also take a drink with you as you walk the strip as Vegas allows for opener containers within the city.
#2 Check Out the Hotels
As you are walking the strip, pop in and out of the hotels. One of my favorite activities is to walk the grounds and through the casinos. They are all so elaborately decorated with different themes. The ones I highly recommend visiting are Caesars Palace, Luxor, Bellagio, Venetian, ARIA, Wynn and the Cosmopolitan. If you can, try to stay on the strip so you are close to the action. As long as you aren’t going during a major event, you can usually find some good deals.
3 Spend Time in Old Vegas
Old Vegas is a pretty cool area and often overshadowed by the new strip. You get a sense of what the city was like before the big high-rise hotels. They have a lot of good bars, restaurants, and activities. You can even take a zip line over Old Vegas for fun experience.
Pro tip: The buy-in for the tables tend to be cheaper in Old Vegas. So your gambling money stretches further 🙂
#4 See a Show (or Two)
There are shows for just about any audience and interest. I highly recommend seeing a Cirque du Soleil show. The talent at any of the Cirque du Soleil shows is incredible. While I was in Vegas with a friend, we saw Mystère. Mystère has had a residence in Vegas since 1993 for good reason. It was amazing and family friendly. For the other show choice, my friend and I decided to relive our childhood with Britney Spears. The ” Britney: Piece of Me” Show was fun and nostalgic. If you want to see her, you better hurry. Her residence will be ending at the end of 2017.
#5 Go to a Pool Party and/or Club
Vegas definitely knows how to party. If you go when it is warm, you have to check out a pool party. There are club and party promoters all over the strip that can help you get on ‘the list’. Be careful who you talk to and give your money to. To be honest, it is much easier if you are a female to get into a lot of the parties. The pool parties are for a 21+, young adult audience. They have DJ’s, games, sometimes foam and more. We went to a rooftop pool party at Drai’s Beach club, atop The Cromwell. It had an awesome view of the strip and great drinks. There were several pools and even private spaces if you have the $.
If you go during the off-season, there are plenty of clubs to keep you busy. Be prepared to wait in some lines to get in. We checked out Tryst, in the Wynn, and 1OAK, in the Mirage, which were both cool. Other popular spots are Hakkasan, Tao and, Marquee.
#6 Dine Atop The Stratosphere
For one of the best views in Vegas, make your way to the top of the Stratosphere. It is at the north end of the strip and the views from the 1,000 ft tall observation deck are impressive. For those who are daredevils, there are amusement rides and bungee jumping at the top. If you want a more relaxing experience, plan on dining or grabbing a drink at ‘The Top of the World’ restaurant. The observation deck rotates at very slowly so you can get a 360 view of Las Vegas. The menu scales on the pricer side, but the food is very good.
