Best Places to Eat in Asheville, NC

One of my favorite local cities to visit is Asheville, NC. Lucky for me, it is a short road trip from home and easily doable for a weekend getaway. Asheville has grown a lot in recent years. It is home to many great local breweries and restaurants. I had a coworker recommend a few places to check out and none of them disappointed. Some of the best places to eat in Asheville are White Duck Taco Shop, Buxton Hall BBQ, Biscuit Head and French Broad Chocolate Lounge.

White Duck Taco Shop

White Duck Taco Shop was actually our first stop as we pulled into town around lunchtime. We went to the location at the River Arts District and the line was wrapped around the building. Everything on the menu looked amazing. We had the Crispy Chicken BLT, Korean Beef Bulgogi,  Lamb Gyro and Jerk Chicken. They were all really good and my only wish was that I could try all of them.

Buxton Hall BBQ

We had Buxton Hall BBQ for dinner one night. Buxton Hall has received a lot of press and nominations for their BBQ. We didn’t make a reservation ahead of time (which I recommend), so we had to wait a bit. It was a cool, open dining atmosphere. We started with the hushpuppies as an appetizer. They were crispy and came with a dipping sauce choice of jalapeno, tartar sauce or buttermilk. The pulled pork sandwich accompanied by potato salad was our main dish. The pulled pork was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a variety of sauces to choose from. I highly recommend stopping by Buxton Hall for your BBQ fix.

Biscuit Head

Biscuit Head is a great place to grab breakfast or brunch. They have some delicious biscuit combinations, creative drinks, and healthy sides. If you go during peak hours, be prepared to wait in a line that wraps around the building. We waited for about 45 minutes, but it was worth it. We got the mimosa fried chicken biscuit which had sweet potato butter, siracha slaw, and a poached egg. We also got a bacon biscuit to be able to taste many of the unique and flavorful jams. To drink, we had to sample the maple bacon latte, which definitely did not disappoint.

French Broad Chocolate Lounge

French Broad Chocolate Lounge is a must stop place to grab dessert or an afternoon snack. The lounge is located at Pack Square in downtown Asheville. They have many delectable desserts to choose from. Anything from handmade chocolates, homemade ice cream to rich cakes and brownies. They are also famous for their sipping chocolate called ‘liquid truffles’. The liquid truffles come in flavors like salted caramel, milk/dark chocolate, and lavender + honey. I highly recommend trying the sipping chocolate, especially on a cool day.
